Crown Estate Board vacancies: MSP urges islanders to apply

Shetland’s MSP and Scottish Liberal Democrat, Beatrice Wishart has urged islanders to apply for membership of the Board of Crown Estate Scotland, the public corporation which manages land, seabed and coastline across and around Scotland. The organisation is keen to attract applications from people representing island communities. The closing date for completed applications is 18 March 2022.

Applications are also particularly welcomed from people with protected characteristics who are currently under-represented, including women, people with disabilities, those from minority ethnic communities, and people aged under 50. Applicants are asked to demonstrate substantial, recent experience in community engagement or regeneration, professional expertise and substantial recent experience in financial management.

Board members provide a strong ‘challenge function’, scrutinising proposals before decisions are taken. Members of the Board receive £219.17 per day and are asked to devote, on average, two days per month. Expenses, including reasonable travel will be reimbursed. Meetings are generally held on a quarterly basis at Crown Estate Scotland’s headquarters in Quartermile, Edinburgh, with members able to join virtually or in-person. There are also three strategic sessions each year, which will be held in person, outside of Edinburgh.

Ms Wishart said:

“I am urging islanders to consider putting themselves forward to bring the unique perspective of our island communities to the Crown Estate Scotland board.

“This is a great opportunity to be involved in the direction that plans are taken for infrastructure growth in coastal and island communities.

“Where could a better voice for all this come from than Shetland?”
