Shetland’s MSP, Scottish Liberal Democrat Beatrice Wishart, is today celebrating Shetland’s Local Heroes. After a search throughout August and over 20 nominations, Ms Wishart will be contacting all nominees in the coming days.
Anita Georgeson is the chosen local hero from Shetland and will join the opening of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliament in early October. Anita is a dedicated care worker at Edward Thomason and Taing House in Lerwick.
Similar local initiatives have taken place for previous openings of the new sessions of the Scottish Parliament, which follow elections to the body. This is the first time Ms Wishart will attend an opening session of the Scottish Parliament since her by-election win two years ago.
Ms Wishart said:
“It is heartening to hear of the kindness and generosity of spirit alive in Shetland following my recent call for ‘Local Hero’ nominations, and I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to send in a nomination.
“All nominees are worthy of the title Shetland’s Local Hero. I received a range of nominations about people who served their community, often quietly and unsung, during the height of lockdown. We already knew that Shetland is full of heroes and this has further demonstrated the kindness and caring that is in the community.
“I look forward to writing to all the nominees and wishing them well in their future heroic endeavours.”
