Wishart demands government address freight capacity issues for the seafood sector
Scottish Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Beatrice Wishart, has today called on the government to expand freight provisions following a meeting with the Chief Executive of Seafood Shetland, Ruth Henderson, who voiced concerns about freight capacity in the Northern Isles.
Beatrice Wishart commented:
"Islanders are understandably frustrated that the Scottish Government isn't listening to the seafood sector.
"Freight capacity is a persistent concern for the sector. If the government doesn't give serious consideration to introducing a third permanent freight vessel industry won't be able to maintain its operations, let alone make progress with expansion plans which would contribute to wider economic growth in the Scottish food and drink sector.
"It's not too much to ask for a government that is responsive to the needs of the sector. Businesses must be able to rely on stable and appropriately sized freight services."
