Wishart highlights opening of land reform consultation

Shetland’s MSP and Scottish Liberal Democrat Beatrice Wishart has today highlighted the opening of the Scottish Government’s consultation on its proposed Land Reform Bill.

Open until 25 September 2022, the consultation seeks views on proposed measures to change how land is bought, owned, sold, managed and used. The stated aim of the proposed Bill is to address long-standing concerns about the highly concentrated pattern of land ownership in rural areas of Scotland.

The Minister for Land Reform will also hold public meetings over the summer, including an online event on Thursday 21 July.

Commenting, Ms Wishart said:

“I encourage everyone with a connection to rural areas with views about land reform to voice them through the consultation process.

“Rural residents can also raise their views with the Minister at public meetings.

“It is vital that the Scottish Government hear from a wide range of people on their proposals, to ensure that views from across society are taken into account.”
