Shetland MSP, Beatrice Wishart, last week held a virtual meeting with local MSYPs, Jonathan Dorrat and Leighton Anderson to talk about issues affecting young people in Shetland. The meeting followed previous engagement between the MSYPs and the MSP on issues affecting young islanders.
Commenting on the meeting, Ms. Wishart said:
“I want to ensure that Shetland is a great place for young people to live, study and work. So I’d like to thank Jonathan and Leighton for once again taking the time to discuss with me about how we can best support young people in our community. The effects of the pandemic were, understandably, at the forefront of our discussion.
“The voting age at the Scottish election is 16 which gives young people a real voice at this election to talk about what they want to see improve. Issues from education recovery, the student experience and access to local mental health services were raised and we are committed to working together to ensure we can amplify the voices of young islanders.”
