In a question session in the Scottish Parliament, Shetland’s MSP, Scottish Liberal Democrat Beatrice Wishart, asked the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Islands Mairi Gougeon for more timely guidance for life under ‘level zero’ Covid-19 restrictions.
Shetland entered level zero at the weekend. Scottish Government briefings leave some of the guidance the same as at other levels despite large differences in Covid-19 statistics determining Shetland's current restrictions.
This has led to a lack of clarity around changes from the higher restriction levels, including for much needed services such as Shetland's adult respite and day services.
The Cabinet Secretary firmly committed to Ms Wishart’s request with a ‘Yes’.
Commenting after the question period Ms Wishart said:
‘I am delighted that the Cabinet Secretary has fully committed to timely guidance for the Islands.
‘It has felt sometimes as though the Scottish Government has given little consideration in how to live under ‘level zero’.
‘I hope that new guidance is delivered as speedily as the one-word response from the Cabinet Secretary.
‘Normal life and people’s businesses hang in the balance.’
