Shetland MSP Beatrice Wishart visited local businesses at the weekend to support Small Business Saturday. Ms Wishart is encouraging shoppers to buy local if they can to support small businesses in Shetland.
Small Business Saturday is a national campaign to highlight the success of small business and to encourage consumers to shop local to support their communities.
Ms Wishart visited craft beer producer Lerwick Brewery, the UK’s most northerly brewery and Island Fish Shetland, which opened its shop last year.
Ms Wishart said:
“I was pleased to be able to visit two businesses representing Shetland’s fantastic food and drink industry. At the Lerwick Brewery we had a useful discussion about the craft beers industry and the impact of Covid-19. At Island Fish Shetland we discussed their delivery service, which is part of their business model and was operational before lockdown, and the fish processing business generally.
“This has been a tough year for Shetland businesses but it has been great to see so much ingenuity in adopting new practices to respond to the challenges of the pandemic. We can all support Shetland’s small and micro businesses by looking for local products first wherever possible. By supporting local business we support the wider Shetland economy too. “
