Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Shetland, Beatrice Wishart, has today announced a series of virtual island meetings for people in remoter islands.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in place the ability to travel to some places is not as simple as before. Therefore Ms Wishart will be holding a series of virtual meetings with island communities where local residents will be able to hear from Beatrice and ask her questions.
Residents of Foula, Fair Isle, Fetlar, Papa Stour and Skerries will have a chance to directly ask questions of Beatrice. For residents who are unable to join online they will be able to participate by phoning into the meeting.
Commenting Ms Wishart said:
“My favourite aspect of the 2019 by-election was, weather permitting, being able to speak to people across the whole of Shetland. The pandemic restrictions mean that's more difficult this time round. But I’m still determined to hear from as many people as possible, even if it's a little different to before.
“I am therefore pleased to say that I will be holding a series of virtual meetings where people who live in our remoter islands will have a direct opportunity to ask me questions and tell me about what they want to see from Holyrood in the next five years.
“For the last 18 months I have taken Shetland’s voice to the Scottish Parliament. Reaching out to make sure people know they are being heard is the very foundation of the job, and so I look forward to hearing what folk have to say."
