Responding to the news that a trio of Iron Age sites in Shetland have been put forward as potential UNESCO World Heritage sites, Shetland MSP Beatrice Wishart said:
"I am delighted to see the Jarlshof and Old Scatness sites along with Mousa Broch, known as the Zenith of Iron Age Shetland, put forward for UNESCO World Heritage status.
"These sites are important for bringing in tourists to the islands and UNESCO World Heritage status can help to market them worldwide.
"Equally importantly though, they are a tangible tie to Shetland's ancient history and culture that we are proud to celebrate and share with the world.
“UNESCO status should help further protect the sites for future generations to learn about our past.
"I will provide any help that I can to the team involved in these bids so as to secure these sites the status they deserve."
