Wishart responds to UK Government WASPI decision
Responding to the news that the UK Government has decided that it will not compensate 1950s women impacted by state pension changes Scottish Liberal Democrat and Shetland MSP Beatrice Wishart said:
“This announcement will anger and devastate the millions of women caught in the middle of this government-made mess. False hope was given in the autumn at the announcement that the UK Government would look at this again.
“The decision goes against the 2024 findings by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman recommending compensation of between £1,000 and £2,950 each for those affected. While this could not be enforced by the body, it is clear support for the arguments made by those in the WASPI campaign and the UK Labour Government ignore it at their peril.”
