Responding to the UK Government’s announcement that it will look again at its previous rejection of compensation for women hit by changes to the state pension age, Scottish Liberal Democrat and Shetland MSP Beatrice Wishart said:

“For years, Liberal Democrats have pushed the Government to fairly compensate WASPI women. Reflecting again with all available information is a positive development.

“Last year the independent Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman acknowledged a failure by the UK Government to provide those women who would be impacted by state pension changes with accurate and timely information and that those affected should receive compensation. I would urge the UK Government not to dismiss that finding with many women left unable to access the State Pension at a time they had previously been led to believe it would be available to them."
